We recommend nitrous oxide for patients that are very apprehensive, and for very young children when extensive treatment is needed. Nitrous usually helps to calm a child by reducing anxiety. We recommend that your child not have any solid food 5 hours prior to that appointment and only clear liquids up to 3 hours prior to that appointment.
The papoose is only used when absolutely necessary, and always with the parents' permission. It may be considered for children that are too young to comprehend and understand dental treatment, in children with extensive decay, when children are uncooperative and finally when they are highly apprehensive. Children should wear loose fitting, comfortable clothes when in the papoose.
